John Thomas' Forty-sixth Week

WALKING... WALKING... and DRIBBLING!

John Thomas' preferred way to get around now is walking. If there's a hurdle that he can't walk over or around, and must crawl to overcome, he will do so, then get right back up and keep walking. The only down side about this new confidence in his walking, is that he will walk to the edge of the stairs and then try to walk down them like Mommy and Daddy. On the up side, he can now walk and carry Daddy's shoes, his own blankie and various toys. And he found a basketball in the closet this week, and dribbled it like a soccer ball across the room! And not just once, he's done it several times since. We can put the ball in the middle of the room and he'll line himself up with it and start dribbling it across the room!

He is still much better walking in barefeet or socks than he is with shoes. He can walk a bit in his shoes, but has a hard time getting up with them on his feet. He has also figured out how to go down a single step. Until this point he had been going up great, but was stymied about getting down.

John Thomas hasn't been eating any baby food for a few weeks now, including his previous favorite of baby oatmeal. But we've found a way that he'll eat regular oatmeal, just let him feed himself. Luckily the oatmeal is sticky enough that it will still stick to his spoon when he turns it upside down, so Mom can just load up his spoon, and give it to him. Most of the oatmeal actually gets into his mouth. We found out this trick on Monday, when he got to feed himself mashed potatoes from a plastic spoon at his Grandma Nikki's place. We'll see how long this novelty of feeding himself with a spoon lasts... New food tastes this week include sping rolls, honeydew melon, pineapple, turnip, squash, and stuffing.

This was John Thomas' last full week at home with Mommy. Next week he starts going to the babysitter's for a couple days, and in two weeks Mom is back at work full time.
