John Thomas' Forty-first Week

On Tuesday John Thomas had his 9-month doctor's appointment. He now weighs 21.1 lbs (9.6kg) and is 29.5" long. He's a little above average in all his measurements, so the doctor said he is perfectly proportioned. The doctor also said he could start drinking cow's milk, and he had his first taste on Tuesday afternoon. He seemed to prefer it warm to cold, and drank it all up. He's been having vanilla yoghurt with his breakfast some days and loves that too.

On Wednesday he had dinner with Mom and Dad at Nan's (his Great-Grandma). He couldn't get enough of the spaghetti and her sauce! He kept on grunting and pointing to Mommy's plate that he wanted more just seconds after Mom had put the last spoonful in his mouth! He's started to use pointing to communicate a lot now. For what he wants to eat, for what he sees that's interesting, and for what he wants you to do. He's started waving a little too. It's not always consistent, but sometimes he'll wave back at you.

He went out to the mall with Mom and Grandma on Thursday. He shared lunch with both of them, he got turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans, and cranberry sauce. There were a few other grandparents nearby and they were all impressed with how much he ate.

He's really been enjoying going to the park and going on the swings. He gets to go almost every night after dinner. He has been pretty consistent about going to bed at 8 or 8:30. But since he has become mobile, he has been fighting going down for his naps a lot. So Mom decided it was time that he go down for naps by himself. We've only been doing it for the morning nap (as we always seem to be coming back from somewhere in the car around the time of his afternoon nap), but it's worked out wonderfully. It took him 20 minutes of fussing the first day, the second day he didn't fuss much and was asleep in 10 minutes, and on the third day he went down right away without any problem.
