John Thomas' Thirty-ninth Week

STEAK! STAIRS! STANDING!

<< Last week's page Next week's page >>

On Sunday John Thomas had his first taste of steak. He loved it! He ate twice as much on Monday for lunch when we served him the leftovers. He also showed exceptional table manners. We put the cut up pieces of steak on a plate for him on the table in front of his high chair. Rather than take the whole plate off of the table and throw it or turn it upside down as we thought he might, he picked each piece of steak off of the plate and placed it directly in his mouth. He still wants to eat and drink everything Mommy and Daddy are eating and drinking, and can get quite insistent about it. You'll see in pictures below where he wasn't happy enough to have slices from an apple, he had to have the whole apple!

Until Sunday John Thomas didn't seem to have much interest in stairs. When he occasionally came across them, he would pull up on them, and then just hang out. On Sunday, he climbed his first set of stairs. It was 6-8 steps, to the neighbour's front door. Later in the week he climbed half of Godfather Marc's stairs, and then got distracted by some trinkets. He hasn't climbed stairs at home yet, but they might be the wrong rise/run for him for now.

Well he's only been crawling for a couple of weeks now, but he's already working on walking. If you give him your fingers to hold on to, he will happily walk around holding onto you. And now, when he pulls himself up, he will let go and try to stand. He can hold himself up in a standing position for up to 5 seconds now.

Although John Thomas turns 9 months next week, his doctor's appointment won't be for another two weeks. We'll have to wait until then to get his latest official measurements. We tried weighing him on Sunday, but he was just too wiggly to get a good weighing. It appeared that he was somewhere between 21 and 23 lbs. He has outgrown most of his 12-month shirts, but is still too small for any 18-month pants.
